Solutions to Intense Cravings

About two weeks ago I wrote a post Intense Cravings and I received a tremendous amount of awesome suggestion to try when having these cravings.  I’ve complied a “master” list for everyone!  Hopefully you’ll be able to try some of these to help you!

I started the post out with ten that I felt were helpful:

  1. Phone a friend
  2. Focus on breathing
  3. Do Zumba (or just move somehow)
  4. Play a game with my daughter
  5. Blog!
  6. Brush my teeth
  7. Turn on some tunes and get lost in the music
  8. Rub my hands together, like a little hand massage or quick self shoulder massage
  9. Close my eyes and visualize being on a beach near the ocean
  10. Have only healthy snacks near me, limit the temptations

Then others gave input on what helps them fight those nasty hard to overcome cravings.  In no particular order here they are:

  • The number one answer was to drink water!
  • Have a weight-loss buddy
  • Portion control baking, such as only baking one or two servings of a dessert
  • Find activities in your community to keep busy
  • Keep healthy snacks on hand – perhaps cucumbers or almonds
  • Don’t keep tempting sweets in your home
  • Savor a spoonful of peanut butter
  • Ask yourself if you’re actually hungry or just bored before you eat
  • Find filling foods to eat
  • Take a walk
  • Listen to music and dance around
  • Cleaning
  • Wait 15 minutes before you give in and see how you feel after that
  • Put lemon or lime in water with ice and some sweetener
  • Cuddle with someone
  • If it’s the end of the night, just go to sleep
  • Tell yourself it won’t kill you to not have it today, but that you can have it tomorrow and then see how you feel the next day about it
  • Stay out of the kitchen
  • Eat an apple before dinner – it will help keep you fuller
  • Work on your hobby
  • Eat decently most days and have one reward day
  • Make a smoothie with Yogurt, berries and honey
  • Find a distraction
  • Look up calories of food and you might be more hesitant to eat certain foods
  • Don’t eat after dinner
  • Drink a cup of tea
  • Chew gum
  • Log your food
  • Get out of the house
  • Visualize yourself eating that thing you’re craving and maybe that will be satisfying enough
  • Yoga
  • Don’t sit online because you’re more tempted to eat
  • Put a flavor or MIO in your water
  • Stay active
  • Read
  • Eat in moderation
  • Eating only the sweets that are your absolute favorite and eliminating other stuff that isn’t as satisfying
  • Have sex!
  • Try on new clothes, usually if things aren’t fitting then suddenly sweets might not be at appetizing
  • Drink Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Paint your nails, water your plants anything to distract

Not all of these ideas may work for you, but hopefully you can find a few and put them to good use!  Good luck with those cravings.
